With the influx of a lot of entrepreneurs taking the courage to start up their own eCommerce website, it makes me super proud to see us going after our goals. It means we're that one step closer to reaching our goals and maybe even not needing a 9-5! It all sounds super exciting and like a 'get out of jail free' card...but how has it been?
Hmm... great question. Since I started up Lemon Gift Box in August of 2018, I was terrified and wasn't sure of what to expect. I used the not-so-much money I had to bring a vision to life. I knew I could do it, I have the confidence; drive and determination--so I took the leap.
It was nice to have such a lovely reception from our followers on Instagram! After only 4 months, we are getting close to 1,000 followers! This gives me the feeling that I'm somewhat on the right path as I'm catching people's interest with my posts. Then to see glowing reviews on my website from my customers was just the cherry on top. My heart was so full to see that my gift boxes made them happy!
Then there's also the nitty gritty, the not-so-great things about running a business by yourself--it's a lot of hard work! It's one of those things that you don't really think about with other companies--the work that goes into it. I have never worked so hard and consistently on anything like this, I even find myself sweating just thinking about it! Down to the social media posts; the product pages, the apps that work with my website, ads, dealing with technical issues, customer service...whew!
I think more small businesses should be open with the not so glamorous parts of running their businesses so that all your supporters get greater insights on how much your business means to you. Lemon Gift Box and making my supporters feel over the moon means the world to me, and I want you to know!
The encouragement I gained to speak on this topic came from the awesome people at Justacard.org, who are an organisation who campaign for the support of smaller businesses. They shed light on some pressing issues and are doing a whole load of brilliant work, you should definitely check them out!
Knowing that there's so many other people who are enthusiastic about supporting small businesses like mine is so heartwarming. I shouldn't be so afraid to ask for support or to voice my opinions about running a business by myself. There's people out there who appreciate things like this and are willing to help; which is very encouraging.
These are just some of my thoughts that I wanted to share with those of you who may be interested. Feel free to share your thoughts below, I'd love to hear them and I'll make sure to respond to as many as I can.
I also started up a support page on Ko-fi.com, feel free to contribute any way you can. Be it just spreading the word, I appreciate it dearly.
'Till the next one,
PS, Happy New Year!
